We were pleased to welcome the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, to Haverstock School in Chalk Farm, where he joined an Anne Frank Trust antisemitism workshop delivered to Year 10 students.
The workshop forms part of our programme funded through the Mayor of London’s Shared Endeavour Fund, supporting vital education work that empowers young people to recognise, challenge and stand up to antisemitism and all forms of prejudice.
The visit comes the day after the horrific stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green. At Haverstock School, the Mayor saw one of our antisemitism workshops in action, gaining a first-hand account of how our work equips young people with the knowledge and confidence to recognise and challenge antisemitism and all forms of prejudice.
During the visit, Sir Sadiq Khan said: “We need to confront the growing tide of antisemitism. This requires us to be tough and uncompromising with antisemites, but also to tackle the root of the problem. That’s why I will continue to work with and fund initiatives from City Hall that are running programmes to prevent radicalisation, combat antisemitism, and promote community cohesion.”
Reflecting on the session, Anne Frank Trust Chief Executive Dan Green said: “Being there with young people in the classroom affords us an incredible opportunity for open discussions and dialogues about contemporary issues around antisemitism and all forms of prejudice.”
